Even further slacking…

May 18, 2009

I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry.  We’re almost done with recording and we’ve even booked some shows, so don’t worry!  We’ve completely finished 8 songs out of 14, have instrumentals for 3 more, and drums for the entire LP.  We’ve still got 2 sets of lyrics to write but we’re hoping to wrap everything up in the next 3 weeks.  We’ve got a show in San Jose on June 5th, two gigs in Portland OR on the 12th and 13th, and one in SF on July 1st.

Later babies,

Alex

Slackin’ on the updates

March 20, 2009

Sorry everybody.  Been real busy as of late.  We’re working on our LP - if you hop over to the myspace you can listen to an advance track from it.  We’re really getting carried away with backing harmonies.  I’ve been doing the whole grad school business - I went to a conference in Pittsburgh earlier this week.  Lilly’s been launching her anti-social network, thedreamfiles.com, and Nick’s been planning his wedding.

Anyhow, thanks everyone who came to see us at the Ant Show last night at Annie’s Social Club.  Thanks to Tin Fan for putting on the show, thanks to Kate, my sister for playing the shaker during Yellow Roman Candles, thanks to everyone who bought one of the new posters, thanks to all the SF General Residents who showed up in force, thanks to our homies Laika who are playing the Rockit Room on April 5th, thanks to Nick’s posse for coming, thanks to Room For a Ghost for loaning me their guitar after I broke a string, thanks to this cool guy Riley we met for filming us and putting together a video that we’re gonna put on this very website.

I don’t have any photos of the show yet or I’d post ‘em.  Instead, enjoy this shot of my brother and myself playing scrabble at Thanksgiving.

Show tonight

February 20, 2009

Here’s a picture of the flyer.

By the way, I went to “The Ant Show” in SF tonight and saw some cool bands.  My favorites were “Please Do Not Fight,” from Redwood City, and “Catholic Comb” from SF.  Please Do Not Fight at first just seems like a punk band with a synth and a violin, but then they do cool stuff in 5/4 time.  Their singer Zen is a cool guy too.  “Catholic Comb” would be a great band to play at your prom.  That’s not an insult, seriously they’d make it the best prom ever.  The singer reminded me of Morrissey singing in his lower register and the music sounds like the Smiths if Johnny Marr had been a drummer, ie. the guitar’s still reverby but just competent while the drums are fantastic.  The drummer plays both match and traditional, like Nick but he hits his drums a lot harder and has a sweet new wave haircut.

By the way, we also played at the Hayward Battle of the Bands tonight. We didn’t place, I think because of laptop prejudice, but it was a fun time, got to play for around 1000 people. They videotaped it, so we’ll get ahold of it and post the video. In the meantime, here are Stanford pics.

The Hotel Utah

February 6, 2009

Has the nicest staff of any bar in SF.  We played there last night - the bouncer (didn’t catch his name) smiled every time we walked by and was really friendly, the bartender was cute and made great conversation, and Kevin the sound guy was exceptionally helpful.  Some bars in SF (Makeout Room, Elbo Room) have the stereotypical stoned/hungover surly sound guy where you don’t want to ask him for anything, he blows off the soundcheck, and once you get off the stage all your friends tell you they could only hear drums/bass.  Not to say that those bars don’t have awesome bartenders, just standoffish sound guys.  The Hotel Utah is the full package.  The food’s good too.

Thanks to Matt and Lexi and FOD and their homies for coming out.  We’re gonna go check out their band Laika on the 18th.  I’ll put a picture with this post as soon as they’re uploaded.
